in-depth review about OIOpublisher, a WordPress ad management plugin
While some people might own blogs simply to share their thoughts or hone their writing skills, the vast majority of webmasters build blogs and websites in order to make money from them. Often time it is a slow process, to build a website and make it profitable. But eventually, if you take all the right steps and focus on building traffic first and making money second, you can become profitable. For experienced webmasters, the process might be expedited by their superior resources and experience, but you still can’t expect to start making money right away.
Once your website starts bringing in a decent amount of steady traffic, you can start thinking about advertising and monetizing your site. If you put ads up from the beginning, you will find it harder to attract return visitors, as many people are turned off by ads – especially if you overdo it. Whenever you are placing advertisements on your sites, you should think about what you would like to see if YOU were browsing your site as a first-time visitor. If the page is filled with ads, chances are you wouldn’t give the site a chance, and would move on to one of the many competing websites. You shouldn’t rush into the monetization process, and you should always be willing to try new methods and new revenue streams to see what works the best for your site.
When it comes to monetization, the more resources, publishers and advertisers you have access to, the better. That way, you can test different ad platforms, different advertisers, different types of advertisements (banner, text, etc.), etc. Some of the more popular advertising networks include Google Adsense and BuySellAds. Unfortunately, it is quite difficult to get approved for both of these networks. They both have strict rules concerning what kind of content you can display on your site while running their ads, and they will flat-out refuse to work with some webmasters for a number of reasons, legitimate or not. Both networks CAN make you money, but in this webmaster’s opinion, there are much better options, such as ad management plugins for WordPress.
One of those options, which I am going to talk about and review today, is a WordPress ad manager plugin called OIOpublisher. Basically, this is a simple plugin that can be used on any WordPress-powered site (modified or not). It is designed to help you sell advertisements directly to advertisers, which in theory can maximize your ad revenue and save you a lot of time. Once set up, OIO publisher is almost completely automated – all you really have to do is review the ads before the go live to assure they are legitimate and not spam. OIOpublisher handles the rest!
how does OIOpublisher work?
Basically, OIO publisher takes over the tasks that an advertising or sales department would handle in a large business. Once installed, you will customize the settings to your liking, and the plugin will start doing its thing. You will select areas of your website that you think would be good places for advertisements to go, and select what types of ads should go there (banner, text, inline, and sponsored posts). In whatever zones you select to host ads, OIOpublisher will automatically put up a generic ad fitting your choice (i.e. a banner ad where you selected a banner ad to be placed). This will be a generic advertisement, saying something like “Advertise Here”. Anyone who is interested in advertising on your website can click on that ad to be lead to an automatically generated sales page.
Once a potential advertiser clicks on one of your banner ads, they will be redirected to a sales page that offers all the different types of ads to them. They will choose from a drop-down menu of available ads, and they will be able to see the availability of that particular ad, as well as the price and the requirements (which can all be manually set by you on the backend control panel). They can also choose from a few payment options, including Google Checkout and PayPal. They can purchase 1 month at a time, or subscribe to a monthly package (which you can make cheaper if you want). If they choose to subscribe, they will keep getting charged automatically once per month. If they cancel the subscription, OIOpublisher will automatically remove the ad for you on the next payment date, and notify you that the spot is now open.
OIOpublisher offers a large array of payment options to make it easier for your customers to purchase advertisements. PayPal is the preferred method for most people, so I suggest setting that up first. You can choose which payment options you would like to offer out of the following: 2checkout, PayPal, AlertPay, Google Checkout, EntreCard, Authorize.net, and Offline Payment (check, money order, etc.). Each payment option must be individually set up through the “settings” section of the OIOpublisher backend.
OIOpublisher is mainly for selling and implementing standard advertisements such as banner and text ads. However, it also has the capability to offer custom advertisements. You can create any type of ad you want, be it a sponsored post, sponsored interview, in-content text link, or whatever else you can think up. Simply make the appropriate changes in the settings menu of OIOpublisher, and the plugin will do the rest!
Just like Google Adsense, advertisers will be able to see and review their advertising results through a simple report, which will be sent out automatically by OIOpublisher. This report will list all the information they supplied to begin with (target URL, anchor text if applicable, image, etc.), plus a detailed daily statistics chart.
In the chart advertisers can choose the time period they want to view: last 7 days, last 30 days, or any custom date range they choose. They will also find the number of impressions they get on their ad(s), the number of actual clicks, their CTR (click thru ratio) and their CPM and CPC (cost per 1000 views, and cost per click, respectively). This is essentially the same information supplied to advertisers by giants like Google Adsense.
You can set-up and edit what types of payment you want to receive through a variety of different payment processors. You can also choose to accept offline payment methods such as check and money order.
You can choose a variety of options to increase or decrease the security of your site. High security might scare off some advertisers, but low security will attract a lot of spam. You can choose to allow advertisers to edit ads once they have been approved (only recommended for trustworthy/regular clients), allow subscription payments, use security questions, etc.
Choosing your own ad zones is a big part of what makes this WordPress ad manager plugin unique from the competition. You can select exactly where you want to place ads, and what type(s) you want to use. You can also specify exactly how much each ad type will cost for any time period you want.
OIOpublisher also has an affiliate program built into it. You can use this program to make money selling ads for other sites, OR you can offer a percentage of the revenue to other people to sell ads on your site. You can set the percentage to anything you want. Consider offering a high percentage to attract new affiliates, which will in turn attract new advertisers. Then, lower the affiliate percentage.
pricing and licencing
You might be wondering what this plugin costs. OIOpublisher is offered at a flat rate of $47. This is one-time fee, not a subscription, and the plugin can be used on all your websites. Also, unlike many ad management plugins for WordPress, OIO does not charge a middleman fee for individual advertisements. This means that if you charge $10 for an ad, you will receive the full $10.

the bottom line
Bottom line, this is an excellent program. It can save you a lot of time and money selling and processing advertisements, especially if you have more than 1 site that sells ad space. It might not offer as big of an advertiser market as Adsense can (meaning you will still have to look for advertisers on your own), but it makes up for it in other ways. It is very affordable, and the fact that it doesn’t charge any sort of per-transaction fee is a big plus. Hopefully by reading this OIO publisher review, you will have a better idea of what this product is and what it does and does not offer. Don’t forget to use our OIOpublisher discount code, which entitles you to purchase this plugin with $10 discount!
